Charles L Schnee, MD, FAANS, FACS
Practice History

Our practice was founded by the late Dr. Charles Henderson in 1965. Dr. Henderson trained in Neurosurgery at the University of Maryland. In 1967, Dr. Robert Hennessy joined Dr. Henderson and started the first neurosurgical practice based at St. Agnes Hospital.  Dr. Hennessy served as the Section Chief of Neurosurgery for many years and enjoyed an outstanding reputation during his career.  He retired in 2015.

Dr. Henry Shuey joined the practice in 1979 after completing training at the University of Florida.  Dr. Shuey later succeeded Dr. Hennessy as the Section Chief, Neurosurgery, at St. Agnes. Dr. Shuey enjoyed 31 years of practice as a partner and was well regarded for his surgical skill, decision making, positive personality, good humor, and hat collection. Dr. Shuey passed in 2010.

Dr. Charles Schnee started in neurosurgical practice in 1997, and joined HSS in 2009.  Dr. Schnee trained in neurosurgery at University of Pennsylvania and completed a spine surgery fellowship at the University of Texas, Houston.  Prior to partnering with Drs. Shuey and Hennessy, Dr. Schnee held positions as Chief of Neurosurgery at Providence St Joseph’s Medical Center; Clinical Assistant Professor at UCLA School of Medicine; Assistant Professor at University of Maryland School of Medicine; and Chief of Spinal Surgery at University of Maryland Department of Neurosurgery.

Dr. Schnee became Chief of Neurosurgery at Kernan Hospital in 2007, serving for over 10 years, and at Ascension St Agnes Medical Center in 2014.  He is also the Chief Medical Officer at Maryland Specialty Surgical Center.  Many patients, family members and friends, originally treated by Drs. Henderson, Hennessy, and Shuey, now entrust their care to Dr. Schnee.  The practice continues to grow and offer the most modern spinal and cranial techniques available.

Dr. Schnee joined MedStar Health in 2020.  Patients are seen from the greater Baltimore area, throughout Maryland’s Western Counties and Eastern Shore, Pennsylvania, Delaware, D.C., Virginia, and West Virginia.

Charles Schnee, MD offers four clinic locations through MedStar Medical Group and MedStar Health.  The Baltimore clinics are located in Catonsville, at the Orthopedic Center at MedStar Harbor Hospital, and on the campus of MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center.  Dr. Schnee also sees patients once or twice monthly at an Eastern Shore office in Easton, MD.  For referrals, please call our main number at 443-777-8807.
